How to Interpret a Natal Wheel Chart

Published by tata at 9:59 am under General Edit This

Interpreting a natal wheel chart - even one’s own - can be tricky business. I have been observing and studying astrology for more than 15 years and still have some troubles getting it sometimes. Interestingly, though, my chart indicates a character who “can’t see the forest for all the trees.” I get lost in the details and sometimes have a bit of a problem viewing the chart as a whole.

To interpret a chart, you must first know how to read a natal wheel chart . If you haven’t yet studied the symbols, it will be very difficult to make sense out of the information you have in order to translate it into information you can comprehend!

Here is a review:

An astrologer that inspired me to continue my studies and helped me to grasp the information in a more meaningful way is Isabel M. Hickey. Her book Astrology: A Cosmic Science is an amazing work. The way she describes interpreting a chart was profound for me, despite it’s simplicity. Pay close attention:

The Planet is the energy at work, the Sign is how the energy will operate and the House is where the energy will operate.

I know how overwhelming it can be for someone just taking interest in astrology, but this one little sentence is the key to understanding natal chart interpretation. Once you are familiar with the ins and outs of what each of the Signs, Planets and Houses represents (including the symbols, as they are an important part of astrology), it is downhill work.

As you progress in your studies, you will see a pattern begin to emerge, much like the way a pattern can be detected in the table above. The Planets, Signs and Houses of the natural zodiac are related and in so, have influences of similar origin. For example, Pisces, naturally ruled by Neptune and natural ruler of the 12th House are often interested in mysticism, magik and tend to be dreamy and emotional. This is partly attributed to the influence of Neptune, whose energy signifies illusion and deception. Further, in Roman mythology, Neptune was the god of the sea and Pisces is a water sign and water is the emotional element. Neptune’s influence further affects the 12th House, the “House of Self-Undoing.” The 12th House, as you may recall, governs things like magik, prisons and secrets.

A few days ago, I answered a question someone had about a Sun/Neptune/Jupiter stellium (we will discuss stelliums further in future posts) in the 2nd House. Take a look at the question and answer for a bit of insight on how interpretation can be tricky. Had I seen this person’s chart, it may have been easier to decipher which influence was stronger by looking more closely at aspects in her chart.

In the next edition, I will discuss dignities and debilities of the natal chart. And very, very soon, I will have a contest here, so do stay tuned!
